Owl Always Love You Dress

Like many little girls of the 70s, I loved the images of owls that were so popular then. So when I spotted this adorable owl fabric, it immediately grabbed my attention. Happy little owls in vivid colors of peacock blue, fuchsia pink, tangerine orange, milk chocolate brown, and grass green.

Not just fun to look it, it is lusciously soft to touch. Perfect for clothing. It would great as a skirt. Sweet as twirl dress. Fun as pants. Cute as a peasant dress. But as I played with the possibilities of what to do with this fabric, I kept thinking of one of my very favorite outfits from childhood. It was a royal purple corduroy wrap dress with matching bell bottoms to wear underneath. I looooved it and wore it every chance I got. Of course, it was handmade by my Mom.

None of the major or boutique pattern companies had what I imagined. So inspired by those happy memories, I set out to create a pattern of my own - something with that feel but a current vibe. This is the result. Modern silhouette, feminine but not too girly detail. For fun, I made it reversible - something little girls love! On the flipside: my favorite color - polka dots.

Halloween Skirt

I looove Halloween! It started in childhood and no (for those of you who know me) it wasn't just the candy, though that was/is definitely part of the appeal. As a kid, my Mom made every holiday special and it was easily seen through her enthusiasm about all things Halloween. She made it special by decorating the house, creating awesome costumes, baking goodies, and trick or treating!
This little vintage-looking skirt evokes those memories. With the many colors in the skirt - black, white, yellow, and several colors of orange, it's easy to add your own basics to create several different looks for school, parties, or just plain 'ole love of Halloween! It would be great as part of a costume, too. Here's a few ideas:
* Add black cape, pointed hat to be a witch.
* Add ared cape, white peasant blouse and a basket to be little red riding hood.
* Add bandana, peasant bouse, lots of jewelry to be a gypsy.
* Add ruffled blouse, eye patch, sword, bandana to be a girl pirate.
After Halloween, it makes for a fun dress-up item. With a generous length and elastic waist, it'll probably fit next Halloween, too. Watch for it in the shop soon. Can't wait? Email lynda@pinkchickadee.com and we'll get one stitched up for you!

Denim Ruffle Pants

These fun jeans are modeled after a pair of my own jeans - super wide legs capri jeans from Anthropology that have been a wardrobe staple for last two years. One of the many things I love about them: they go with everything I own. Okay, not really but it seems like it.
Flip flops, strappy sandals, ballet flats, mules, and even knee-high boots. Dressed up or dressed down, they always look just right for the occasion. An added plus is that they're so comfy that I feel like I'm wearing pjs. That makes them purrfect for airplane travel. For a long while I was flying every week and wore these anytime I could. As I hustled through airports, hotel lobbies, and rental car agencies, I got used to strangers stopping me to inquire about how they could get their own pair of these fabulous jeans.
Honestly, I think I walk with an added air of confidence when I wear them because I just like how it feels to have them on. I hope they last forever - too bad favorite clothes can't be cloned!
Now, your sweet girl can have her own dark denim ruffle jeans with the same versatility, comfort, and style. These are full length jeans rather than the capri lenght of mine, but as your little one grows, the elastic waist means the waist will still fit and the versatile style means they'll still look fashionable at both ankle and capri lengths. I figure they're good for a couple years of wear.
Check them out in my etsy shop. They come in sizes 12mo-8girls and can be made in custom waist and length measurements. Just be prepared to have strangers stopped to say... Those jeans are fabulous! Where did you get them?
