Brooklynn's Favorite: the Blue Daisy Twirl Dress

Look at that big smile on Brooklynn's face! Can you tell that she loves this dress? Because Brookie wears a dress on most days, I wanted to know what made this one special. Her answer? It's happy. And soft. And twirly.

I just love watching Brooklynn twirl and twirl and twirl around. The more she twirls, the bigger she smiles. The more she smiles, the more I smile. See, that's why the twirly dress exists: it makes people smile.

Ohio State Buckeyes

Not long ago I was sitting at DFW in Dallas waiting for my flight to board. Bad weather had thrown off airline schedules so the wait had been a doozie and people were just plain grouchy. Not a good atmosphere.

That is until an "O-H" rang out from someone. It seemed like the entire crowd responded with the "I-O". What followed was a series of Buckeye cheers and songs. And just like that, four simple letters had transformed the negative vibe among the impatient travelers into a happy one. Whatever it is that causes OSU fans to be so darn crazy over their Buckeyes is powerful stuff.

My work has taken me all across the US and no matter what city I'm in, there are Buckeye fans. One of the best places to see it as a traveler is on a Friday late afternoon/evening flight into Columbus ... during a home game weekend. Among the usual weery business travelers are exuberant fans all garbed out in Ohio State tees, sweatshirts, Buckeye necklaces, and you name it.
OSU fans love to display their Buckeye love, so it wasn't any surprise when a friend asked if I had any OSU tees or onesies for her 3 week old grandchild. Here's the result. If you've got a favorite sports team - high school, college, other - this tee/onezie is easily adapted. Add a comment to this post or email us at lynda@pinkchickadee.com

Princess Jordie and Amy Butler

One of the most rewarding things about making clothes for little ones is seeing the precious photos of the darlings in their new duds.
Recently, one of our etsy customers, Kelly, asked us to create two dresses for her sweet daughter, Jordie. She was kind enough to share photos of the Princess all dolled up. Doesn't she look adorable? Kelly added the hairbow - which looks like the same ribbon as on the dress.

This dress is comfy for your little girl while offering that dressed up look. The knit top is actually a ruffle tee and the skirt of the dress is quilting weight fabric from Ohio designer Amy Butler. Amy's fabrics launder beautifully, too. I love the vintage and modern feel and the unique combinations of color. On this little dress, the limey green flower buttons and the Daisy Chain turquoise clematis fabric seem to be made for one another. Don't you think?
Thanks Kelly and Jordie for the photos! We hope the dress becomes a favorite for both Momma and sweet baby girl!

Ruffle Bum Bloomies are Here!

The last couple of weeks I’ve been working on prototypes for bloomies - in both plain jane and ruffle bum - to cover up those boring 'ole diapers.. After trying out a few different styles, a favorite has been found. Yeah!

The first pair of ruffle bums is offered in various shades of pink to match our Pink Chick logo, of course! But they also coordinate with several other items in our spring collection. They’re perfect with the Ring Around the Posies dress, the big pink dot side of the reversible Rainbow Garden cross-back dress, both sides of the reversible Hot Pink Mod dress, and the Pink Gingham Check onesie dress. Check them out here.

Tomorrow, if the weather cooperates with some sunshine, I’ll get photos of the denim blue bloomies from the weekend sewing. I love the colors: light blue dot, batik, darker blue, blue leopard. Gotta see ‘em. Next up: black and white bloomies to go with the Ring Around the Posies dress, lady bug collection, and some new stuff slated for May-June release.

Ring Around the Posies Dress

Erin Bradley of Ink Obsession Designs created our Pink Chickadee logo and blog layout - both of which I love. If you're looking for stationery, party invitations, wedding, or graphic design check out her work. Not only are her designs fun, fresh, and modern but she's delightful to work with. You can also find her beautiful designs on etsy.com.

Some of Erin's designs feature flowers and served as the inspiration for the newest Pink Chickadee dress. Thanks Erin for allowing us to share our version of your posies artwork!

Our Ring Around the Posies dress is washable white linen with pink posey appliques all around the hemline of the dress. The flowers are intended to fray a bit around the edges to add a bit of a shabby chic vibe. The shoulder ties and flower stems are grosgrain ribbon.

The dress coordinates with our pink polka dot ruffle pants and ruffle bloomies are on the way. It would also look great over your own black leggings and a tee.

I shouldn't sew without my morning joe

Look at these little turtle pants? Cute, eh? Well, they were going to be. How can you sew an entire garment and not notice it's upside down? Crazy! That what I get for sewing before 7am without my morning joe. It looks like Barbie may be getting some new jammies from this screw up. The redo version turned out just fine and there's a girls version with ruffles instead of the striped band. Plus a blankie, onesie, tee. I'll post the entire turtle collection soon.

Hand Embroidered Bunny Baby Quilt

This sweet OOAK Bunny Baby Quilt will be posted on http://pinkchickadeekids.etsy.com/ on Monday, April 6. The centerpiece of the quilt is the hand embroidered bunny block (measures 12.5 by14.5). The bunny design was embroidered by hand on white-on-white polka dots cotton. The 3 by 4 inch bunny is chocolate brown in color with a two tones of taupe border. The stars, flowers, and vines are spring green (more green than yellow), baby pink, and bubble gum pink. The bunny design and inspiration for the quilt is from Doodle Stitching by Aimee Ray.
The backside of the quilt is white super soft flannel with a patchwork strip of fabrics from the feature side of the quilt. The binding is bubblegum pink polka dot attached by machine and then handsewn for a professional finish. All fabrics are 100% cottons that will be soft next to baby's skin. The two layers of fabric and batting in-between are sewn in place with circles of various sizes. The quilt measures 29 by 42 inches.

Did I say that I LOVE this dress? These fabrics make me want to skip around. They scream happy! The sassy fabric has great big dots and paisleys and a cool 1970s vibe. With so many colors, it would be easy-breezy to dream up tons of outfits. Link pink tee, orange tank, hot pink long sleeve tee, orange Jackie cardigan, white capri pants, pink leggings, and the list goes on.

I have to admit that part of love affair with these Rainbow Garden fabrics is rooted in my childhood. My Mom made all my clothes back then (lucky me) and I had this great outfit - dress with coordinating pants -- and I can picture that outfit. It was a definite favorite and I wore it as often as I could. I hope some little girls get that feeling about this dress. The pattern from Portabello Pixies is designed to grow along with the girl. The elastic back and adjustable straps will help get a couple of years wear from the dress. That's fantastic news for the little girls who loves the dress and for parents' budgets.
